Phils’ Pitching Pills / Pitching Spills

Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia - Philadelphia Phillies relief pitcher J.C. Romero will be suspended for the first 50 games of the 2009 baseball season after testing positive for a banned supplement he purchased over the counter at a chain nutrition store. The supplement was banned from professional baseball in 2008 for containing ingredients that raise testosterone levels. Phils skipper, Charlie Manuel, at first surprised by the news, quickly put things into perspective: “It’s a good thing we caught him before the entire team started getting addicted to those damn diarrhea bars.” One assumes Manuel was referring to the diuretic quality of protein bars, and not to bars actually made of fecal matter, but, with Charlie, you never really know. More on this never.

50 games, just for taking 6-OXO? “6-OXO works by targeting the brain – specifically a part of the brain known as the hypothalamus – prompting it to augment the chemical signal that tells your endocrine system to produce more testosterone.”* Targeting the brain? Sounds harmless to me. And it’s made by ErgoPharm, the same guys who developed The Clear®, Barry Bonds’ favorite designer steroid, so you know it must be good.

Hey, if it’s good enough for 73 home runs, it’s good enough for me!
